(Working title) – Extracts From a Film in Preparation

Boris Savelev is one of the most important and well-known photographers working in Russia today. He first came to the attention of the art world in the west with the publication of Secret City by Thames and Hudson in 1981. This established Savelev as one of the most serious artists of a new generation of photographers emerging from the former USSR.

Savelev’s extraordinary photographic work has earned him a place in major international collections worldwide, and his current exhibition “31 Years” at the Michael Hoppen Gallery in London opened to great critical acclaim.

Luke met Boris the first time he visited Russia in 1998 and they became firm friends. Luke has been photographing, learning and drinking with Boris ever since, but first turned a film camera on him in Madrid last year. The film in preparation is a close portrait of an important photographer and a wonderful man.
